Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
