Los Angeles Erupts in Celebration as Los Angeles Dodgers Secure Second World Series Championship
The City of Angels witnessed widespread celebrations after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series title. Fans worldwide joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the first time in 25 years that a franchise has achieved consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Attracts Massive Crowds
Local celebrations included a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage depict thousands of Los Angeles residents flooding downtown streets, many displaying handmade banners and team flags. The team was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy high.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the players walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Celebrations began well before the procession, with supporters lighting flares in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
The World Series MVP, named the MVP of the championship, spoke directly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” he said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
However, the team owner received a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the gathering seem to depict him taking the stage to a mix of applause and boos, with negative shouts interrupting his address.
The World Series acted as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people attended to the championship parade last year, and according to team member one athlete, fans this year showed equal or greater enthusiasm.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
