Historical organ composition
Bach is thought to have composed the two compositions during his early years

Recently identified musical pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach have been revealed and played in the European nation for the premiere performance in over three centuries.

The nation's Culture Minister the government representative labeled the discovery of the two compositions a "great moment for the world of music".

They initially attracted notice of Peter Wollny in the early nineties when he was organizing the composer's papers at the Belgian royal collection.

The musical compositions - the Chaconne in D minor and G minor composition - were without dates and without attribution. The researcher spent the following three decades working to verify the identity of the pieces.

Historic Performance

They were played at the historic Leipzig church in Leipzig, where Bach is interred and where he was employed as a music director for twenty-seven years.

The compositions were played by Dutch musician the musical performer, who said he was proud to be able to play them for the first time in over three centuries.

He said the compositions were "remarkably sophisticated" and would be "an important addition for contemporary organ players, as they are also appropriate for reduced-scale organs".

Cultural Relevance

They are considered to have been created early in Bach's career, when he was serving as an organ instructor in the municipality of Arnstadt in the German region.

The scholar, who is now the head of the Bach research center in the municipality, said they demonstrated several qualities particular to the artist.

"Stylistically, the works also include characteristics that can be found in the composer's creations from that era, but not in those of other musicians," he said.

They are considered to have been written down in 1705 by one of Bach's pupils, the musical student.

At a unveiling of the pieces, the researcher said he was "99.99% sure that the composer had composed the two pieces" and they have now been included into the authoritative listing of his compositions.
